In layman’s terms, it means presenting someone’s work as your own. Most cases of plagiarism can be found in universities with students trying to cheat with academic assignments. Universities have adopted a special plagiarism checker system called Turnitin, and every essay a student submits must go through that checker to ensure it is an originally written piece.

Plagiarism is the act of using someone else’s words, ideas, or work without giving them proper credit. It involves presenting someone else’s work as your own, whether it is a direct copy or paraphrased version. Plagiarism is considered unethical and dishonest in academic and professional settings, as it undermines the original author’s intellectual property rights and misrepresents the plagiarizer’s own abilities and knowledge. To avoid plagiarism, it is important to properly cite and reference all sources used in your own work and to always give credit to the original author.
