An atheist is someone who does not believe in the existence of any gods or deities. They assert that there is no evidence or reason to believe in a higher power. On the other hand, an agnostic is someone who claims that it is impossible to know whether or not gods or deities exist. They believe that the existence of a higher power is unknowable or beyond human comprehension. While atheists deny the existence of gods, agnostics remain uncertain and open to the possibility.
